Is life really that bad?
My friend Harriett and I were having a conversation about what was happening in life, families, work, the youth, etc. Before I knew it, my friend stood up, looked at me, and said, “Shavonda, people are dealing with some real stuff.”
…and at that moment, I found my thought process began to shift, my stress began to subside, and my heart began to soften. I realized at that very moment that no matter what was happening in my life, it did not compare to what others were dealing with.
A gentleman walked into our office with a card in hand, asking us to sign it, and when I inquired what it was for, the gentleman informed me that one of our colleagues’ son had passed. He had a heart attack and died at the young age of 31 years old. If that isn’t bad enough, he lost another son a few years back at the age of 21 years of age, and his mother died just a few months ago. Now, y’all know, PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH SOME REAL STUFF!
Every time they call Code Blue at my hospital, I’m reminded that PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH SOME REAL STUFF.
Every time I hear on the news that someone’s child was killed, kidnapped, raped, or dealing with an incurable disease, I’m reminded that PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH SOME REAL STUFF.
Every time I get on a prayer call and hear the numerous prayer requests, I’m reminded that PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH SOME REAL STUFF.
(With tears streaming down my face as I’m writing this blog) I found myself the other day asking God for forgiveness because sometimes we, as believers, tend to focus more on the problems in our lives instead of the problem solver!
Let me encourage you to walk by FAITH and NOT by SIGHT — believing and trusting God to be the game changer in your life! No longer look at your present situation or circumstance as if the world is coming to an end. Trust and know that God got IT and YOU all under control.
I’m not trying to downplay what you are dealing with, but what I am trying to do is to encourage you to remain on the positive end of it all. . . Knowing that ALL things will work together for the GOOD. –Romans 8:28
